Always hang up on bill collectors. In fact, hang up on anyone who calls you asking for money.
Unless you personally know him or her, and unless you know for absolute certainty that it is that person, hang the hell up.
And if anybody asks you for money in some non-standard way, like gift cards, then it’s a scam. Period. Say no. Even if it’s a relative.
